Hillsborough Township is a popular town located in Somerset County. It has a population of around 38,000 people. The area was initially known as Hillsbury but got a name change as a nod to Lord Hillsborough. Hillsborough Township includes the communities of Belle Mead, Blackwells Mills, Flagtown, Neshanic, and South Branch. Each community has something great to offer!
Hillsborough was ranked 16th in the nation in Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live. Filled with farmland and countryside, the township is the perfect spot for those wanting the convenience of city life, but the quiet of country living. It’s home to Duke Gardens and Duke Farms. They combine to be a vast 2,700-acre estate that was originally owned by tobacco and electric energy tycoon James Duke. It is now considered a natural preserve that offers beautiful sites for anyone that wants to visit!
The Hillsborough Township School District serves students from pre-K through 12th grade. Kids from Millstone also attend Hillsborough schools. Throughout the district, there are nine schools with around 7,300 students and 600 teachers. All the schools are highly rated and have award-winning teachers and programs. The district is well known for its excellent sports programs and offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities. There are also several private schools within the area.
Located just over an hour’s drive from both New York and Philadelphia, the town of Hillsborough is convenient for commuters. US Route 206 goes through the township, making it easier to get to wherever you need to be by car. There are train stations in neighboring towns and bus routes throughout the district as well. Everything you need as far as shopping, dining, and entertainment can be found in Hillsborough itself.
