Dunellen

Nestled within the Raritan Valley Region, you'll find the quiet suburb of Dunellen. Named after the Dunellen train station, the town has a rich history. Once a railroad station was built in the late 1860s, the town began to grow. The Art Color factory, built in 1925, was Dunellen's primary industry and would distribute up to 10 million magazines a month.

Today, Dunellen is a very family-oriented community - with highly rated schools, plenty of parks, and lots to do. The community is known for serving its citizens, and besides annual events and festivals, they also offer services for their senior and disabled residents. In fact, anyone that needs transportation services can reach out to the community center to reserve free rides to shopping, doctor appointments, and more. The park district offers many different team sports and activities for all ages, including classes and clubs for preschool ages.

If schools are a priority, you'll be very impressed with Dunellen Public Schools. Serving students from pre-K to 12th grade, the district has just over 1,200 students enrolled and around 100 classroom teachers. The district offers many extracurricular activities, and 8th graders are encouraged to apply for high school programs offered by the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools.

If you're commuting to the city, you'll have about an hour's drive. You can also take the NJ Transit train from the Dunellen station on the Raritan Valley Line. Discount parking passes are available for regular train commuters. Bus service is also available through the NJ Transit service. Although no major highway or interstate runs directly through town, it's very easy to get to some from the neighboring communities. For instance, Route 287 is minutes away, and it connects to both the Garden State Parkway and The New Jersey Turnpike.
