An interesting fact that only some New Jersey residents know is that there are two towns called “Ocean Township” in the state. One in Monmouth County and the other in Ocean County. The following information is about the Ocean Township located in Monmouth County.
The township consists of three main unincorporated neighborhoods: Wanamassa, Oakhurst, and Wayside. Ocean Township has over 27,300 residents, and its large population is partially thanks to a growth spurt in the 1970s when new family developments were built to attract new buyers. However, it’s not all newer construction in the township. In fact, there are also many older homes that date back to the early 1900s’.
The town also has the appeal of being very close to Asbury Park, which is quite a tourism draw for the area. The town and surrounding area provide a wide choice of restaurants, shops, and even boardwalks. You’ll have plenty to do all year round! The township itself is home to a community pool, a gym, and tennis courts for residents. If you’re into golf, Deal Golf and Country Club have top-rated courses. You can also enjoy many different events at the 250-acre Joe Palaia Park, like the Italian Festival in August.
Ocean has a high-rated school district and is home to three elementary schools, an intermediate school, and a high school. Students rate high academically, and there are plenty of options for extracurricular activities. There are also several private school options both in town and in neighboring communities.
If commuting is a consideration for you, you’ll find Ocean Township incredibly convenient. You can catch a New Jersey Transit train in either Asbury Park, Allenhurst, or Elberon. If the two-hour train ride is a bit much for you, drive 30 minutes to Highlands, and catch a Seastreak Ferry into Manhattan. For car commuters, it’s about an hour drive to NYC via the Garden State Parkway, depending on traffic of course.
