Watchung

Located in Somerset County, Watchung has a population of just under 6,000 people and a land area of just over six miles. The picturesque tributary known as “Stony Brook” runs through the borough on its way to The Watchung Lake. Flowing through the gorge in the first Watchung mountain, the brook makes the sights of the town fit for postcards.

If you love the outdoors, Watchung is the perfect town for you. There are many parks, playgrounds, and walking paths for jogging and biking. And if you enjoy fishing, Watchung Lake is the spot to be. The one-mile path around the lake has scenic views of its beautiful fountains and a cascading waterfall. It’s also the location of Watchung’s 9/11 Memorial overlooking the Village Green. This unique memorial replicates the town’s natural rock formations. You can take a seat on one of the benches or in a Gazebo to take in all the gorgeous views.

The town is also known for its local gardening group, The Garden Club. This popular club is active in community beautification projects, field trips, and horticultural workshops. They offer many events and activities for all ages. This includes youth programs and events that provide a great opportunity for kids to learn about gardening.
