Located in Somerset County, South Bound Brook is a borough with about 4,500 people. Formed initially as a town within Franklin Township, the area has been known as South Bound Brook since the late 1890s. Named after a nearby brook by the same name, the town is known as the site of The Battle of Bound Brook. This was an important battle during the Revolutionary War, where George Washington fought the British in 1777.
The town is conveniently located to both New York City and Philadelphia and is about an hour’s drive from each. Residents can also access the NJ Transit system via bus service in town, and the Bound Brook Train Station is nearby.
South Bound Brook is known for its charming downtown area, which was recently refurbished with new sidewalks, lighting, signs, and modernized buildings. Residents enjoy many locally owned businesses, boutiques, and restaurants. What was once an industrial area with factories was recently rebuilt with modern townhouses and condos. While South Bound Brooks still retains its historical small town charm - there is a new, modernized feel to it with all its recent upgrades and restoration.
The Delaware and Raritan Canal is the star of South Bound Brook, with both residents and visitors coming all year long to enjoy its beautiful scenery. The canal and its D&R Canal Trail provide the perfect spots for boating, fishing, and hiking. For those not as adventurous, you can enjoy an afternoon with family or friends taking in the gorgeous sites with a picnic.
The South Bound Brook School District is highly rated and serves kids from pre-K through 8th grade. High schoolers in 9th through 12th grade attend Bound Brook High School. While there is only one school in town, there are several private school options nearby.
