New Hanover is a township located in Burlington County. It is a close community with a rich history, diverse schools, and a variety of amenities and activities for residents to enjoy. It is a great place to live for anyone looking for a small town feel while still being within easy reach of major cities. As of the 2020 Census, the current population of New Hanover was just under 6,500 people who are spread out over the sprawling 22 and a half square miles.
A large portion of New Hanover’s area is owned and by Fort Dix Army Center and McGuire Air Force Base and off limits to civilians. Families who live on base have access to their own housing, schooling, social activities and shopping. New Hanover Township outside of McGuire-Dix has its own attractions including Nash Park, the General Godfrey House, and the Cranberry Hall Farm.
Although it has less amenities than neighboring towns, New Hanover is neighbored by North Hanover, New Egypt, Pemberton and Springfield which provide a variety of local restaurants and stores as well as familiar chain options.
The New Hanover School District serves the non-military area students and consists of one school which teaches students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. For high school, students attend Bordentown Regional and are intermixed with students who live in Bordentown City, Bordentown Township and Fieldsboro Borough. In addition to the traditional high school, students in New Hanover have the option to attend the Burlington County Institute of Technology if they choose to pursue vocational or technical education.
New Hanover is conveniently located near several major highways, including the New Jersey Turnpike and the I-295, making it easy to commute to nearby cities. Public transportation is also available, with several bus routes serving the town and a train station located in nearby Trenton.
